The scenic tranfer takes you out of the metropolis of Santiago into the Andean foothills, finally climbing a steep (but very safe) mountain highway to the resort. Under normal conditions the drive takes approximately a 2 hours. on arrival get started on settling. Long famous as one of the first great ski resorts in the Chilean Andies, Portillo lies only 95 miles from Santiago. This approximately 2 hour ride will bring you from a major South American city to a major, first class, hotel and some of the finest summer skiing available anywhere. In this intimate valley you will never have more than 450 people on the slopes. Guests form a special camaraderie in the deluxe Hotel Portillo as they recount adventures on the slopes, enjoy sumptuous meals and dance the night away in the hotel's discothèque. Known for great snow, many national ski teams train here. Join in the fun, which culminates with a lively awards ceremony Thursday evening in the Living Room Overnight on Luxury, Hotel Portillo (BLD) FRIDAY, Day 8: Ski / Torchlight Parade Enjoy the most exciting Skiing or Snowboarding! Or Simply Do as you wish. Ski down to glacier-blue Lake Inca or traverse into huge bowls amidst 15,000’ peaks (nearby towers our hemisphere’s highest peak, Aconcagua). With 12 lifts, 23 runs, and all the snow of a maritime range, You can ski deep powder, ego corn, and groomed corduroy in July 4th (much like Feb. at home). Portillo is the summer training hill to top ski racers, big-mountain skiers, and every-day carvers. On Friday nights the Ski School descends from the plateau with blazing torches, culminating in a bonfire at the foot of the hotel. Watch from the Hotel Portillo deck, then join the skiers around the bonfire for hot spiced wine. After lunch, a guide/driver will picking you up at your hotel, your trip will include the main attractiion spots of this lovely city, such as the Santa Lucía hill, the Civic District and Historical Santiago; the Club Hipico one of the most beautiful horse racetrack in Latin America) the Presidential Palace, also known as La Moneda and the National Museum,. The latter visit will enable your kids to relate to a not so distant past of a conservative society and its most relevant historical events and turning points .
